As we all know, BlizzCon Online 2021 is coming up soon. Specifically, on February 19 and 20. If you've read our special on expectations and hopes for the streaming event, you know that we're not really expecting any big, surprising new announcements. It seems certain that the developers will announce the re-release of WoW: The Burning Crusade. There are also persistent rumors of a modernized version of Diablo 2 coming from Vicarious Visions (remakes of Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater).
Add to that WoW: Shadowlands, Diablo 4, Diablo Immortal, Hearthstone, and Overwatch 2, and that's a whole lot of topics for the upcoming BlizzCon Online. However, as of a few days ago, there is a solid hint that Blizzard might actually have more in store.
The editors of IGN India came across a (now deleted) entry on the LinkedIn profile of Blizzard game producer Maxine Virtue about a previously unannounced project. It said that Maxine Virtue was responsible for "outsource and insource management" of games like Warcraft 3 Reforged, Starcraft 2, Starcraft Remastered, Diablo 3, and Fenway.
Fen ... what? That's right! Fenway. So far, there is no previously released or announced game associated with this project name. Since this is most likely a project name and not a teaser title (similar to Blizzard's Titan or Fenris projects), this project could really be anything: the Diablo 2 remake, a new mobile game for a well-known franchise, or a game for an entirely new IP.
We may learn more when Blizzard executives reveal the lineup for the upcoming BlizzCon. Or maybe we'll have to wait quite a while to find out more details about Fenway. The studio is known to take a long time before going public with an official new announcement. What does your gut tell you? Does Blizzard have a surprise announcement in store for us in nine days? Tell us in the comments!
